Round 6's 'Shout Burst' features multiple-choice questions, while 'Mondo Burst' in Round 7 offers a multitude of different Target Answers per topic.
The latter, a timed, winner-take-all event, has one team trying to match five pre-determined answers within one minute and the other team getting an equal amount of time on a different topic. Round 5 has two options: 'Sloppy Seconds' and 'Challenge Clock.' In the former, teams have 30 seconds to make five correct matches, and the opposing team has 30 seconds to 'steal' any answers not correctly matched for double points. In Round 3, 'Reverse Burst' has players guessing the topic instead of the answers.
Rounds 1, 2, and 4 feature 'Regular Outburst,' which gives teams 60 seconds to come up with answers and earn bonus points. To speed up gameplay, only the first three letters of each answer need to be typed, as the program is designed to recognize correct responses. Each topic contains ten pre-determined Target Answers, which earn the team a single point when matched, and games consist of seven rounds with six variations.
The basic premise of Outburst is to have players call out answers (entered by a designated team captain) based on topics randomly supplied by the program.
